Jongkyeong Lee introduces, in this workshop, a raw-edge patchwork technique in which participants develop their own design concept and arrange fabrics freely according to their intended composition. Moving beyond traditional block-based patchwork, the workshop adopts a contemporary approach that deconstructs and reconstructs the surface to create dynamic and expressive structures. Using zigzag stitching or free-motion stitching, participants construct both straight and curved forms with flexibility and fluidity. The class also covers secure raw-edge stabilization techniques and explores how stitch density influences surface texture and visual impact, allowing participants to balance structural stability with artistic freedom. A key focus of the workshop is the use of mesh fabrics and intentional cutwork to create spatial depth. By incorporating transparency and negative space, participants build layered compositions that invite light and background to interact with the surface. The result is a more dimensional and contemporary textile expression. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels: beginners gain confidence in exploring new compositional approaches, while experienced quilters expand and refine their personal design language. By the end of the workshop, participants complete a contemporary art quilt sample with an independent and expressive composition.
