Amiche di Patch

Amiche di Patch is a group of quilt makers from various regions of Italy and the Canton of Ticino in Switzerland who began working together in 2012 by creating “Il Gioco dell’Oca”.Previously, the group was called OCAPATCH and consisted of members of Quilt Italia. The aim of this group was to create quilts for charities or organizations helping children and women in need.As it grew, the group opened its doors to other creators and was renamed Amiche di Patch (friends of patchwork). Each artist creates their own pieces, which are then combined by the project manager, bringing unique quilts to life.

The MURALES project started in 2019 when Amiche di Patch decided to dedicate a quilt to women facing difficulties in their lives. 44 quilters sewed their own faces, or one of a famous person. All the blocks were quilted together, making them look as if they were painted on a wall. INSIEME (Together) is the name of the artwork and was finished in February 2020. Then Covid happened and parks seemed empty without the happy voices of children. Thus, the Group decided to create a joyous and colourful garden with fabrics. Mothers and grandmothers worked together with their young quilters and a new mural was on its way: INSIEME AL PARCO GIOCHI (Together at the Playground). Seven children were sewn in different parts of Italy to come and play together in front of a wall made with empty tea bags, which looked like bricks. Thereafter, there was smart working, smart learning, smart teaching, and the Group dedicated a new piece to smart quilting: INSIEME IN VIDEO CONFERENZA (Together in a Video Conference). A curious cat on a messy desk is listening to nine people talking in a big laptop. Eight women and two men used different techniques (classic, modern, contemporary quilting), fabrics and embellishments to create a unique piece. These three MURALES are travelling to several exhibitions and, by the end of 2023, will be donated to associations taking care of suffering women and children.
