Szilvia Kerékgyártó learned the basics of patchwork in 1998 in Debrecen, Hungary. She later attended several training sessions and has continued to develop her skills through paid online workshops and courses. Since April 2014, she has regularly shared her work on her blog, Szilvi’s Patchworks. Through detailed photographs and descriptions, she aims to inspire others and encourage them to discover patchwork. Since November 2015, she has been teaching patchwork online, both through a subscription-based system and through online courses. She also regularly leads workshops. Since 2015, she has consistently taken part in competitions organized by the Hungarian Patchwork Guild. In 2021, at the competition entitled “The Treasure that surrounds us,” her textile artwork “Childlike Wonder,” depicting a portrait of her daughter, received the special prize from Juki Hungary. In 2023, her piece “Impossible” won the jury prize in the Best Hand Quilting category. In 2024, at the National Patchwork Festival, her quilt “Among the Stars” received the Best Traditional Quilt award. In September 2025, at the Avantgarde competition, her work “What are her Origin?” won the special prize from the European Quilt Association (EQA), the grand prize of the event, and the People’s Choice Award.
