Born in Finland, Armi Heikkinen has lived in Switzerland since 1980. Drawn early to creative practices, she explores sewing, knitting, drawing, and mixed media, developing a free and experimental artistic language.
Her work takes the form of textile art pieces combining fabric, paper, recycled materials, dried leaves, natural fibers, and three-dimensional constructions. Her practice follows an intuitive visual narrative, guided by a recurring question: “What if I try?”
Close observation of nature and contemporary society shapes her inspiration. Studies in history and archaeology, along with travels across continents, have enriched her artistic palette and perspective.
She teaches workshops on tissue paper combined with felted wool, textile jewelry, and mixed-media textile books. She regularly participates in advanced textile courses and exhibits throughout Europe.
She is a member of SAQA, France Patchwork, and FinnQuilt.
