Sarah Hibbert’s quilts are known for their bold visual impact, created through vibrant and contrasting color combinations. Her gallery Colour Works continues this signature approach while presenting an entirely new body of work, shown here for the first time. For this collection, Sarah chose to work exclusively with solid fabrics rather than patterned textiles. By focusing solely on color, she intensifies contrast and heightens the graphic clarity of each composition. The absence of print allows color relationships to take center stage, creating striking visual statements. The exhibition includes both improvisational quilts and carefully designed compositions of her own creation. Alongside these, Sarah revisits traditional quilt blocks, reinterpreting familiar forms through contemporary color palettes. As a quilter often associated with modern design, she has long wanted to return to classic blocks and explore how color alone can transform them into something fresh and dynamic. Colour Works offers her the opportunity to integrate this renewed perspective into her latest body of work. Ultimately, color is her language. It shapes mood, structure, and energy within each quilt. In this exhibition, she demonstrates how powerful and expressive color can be—proving that, for her, color works.
