Irina Malyukova offers, in this workshop, an introduction to free-motion quilting on a domestic sewing machine, demonstrating that it is approachable, achievable, and enjoyable. Designed as a starting point, the class builds confidence through practical guidance and hands-on exercises. Drawing on her experience, she covers the essentials for getting started successfully, including necessary supplies, presser feet, needle and thread selection, tension adjustment, and helpful tips for domestic machines. Participants then practice a variety of continuous-line freehand quilting designs (nine designs) to develop muscle memory and control. The workshop also includes an introduction to ruler quilting, allowing participants to explore straight lines and achieve greater precision using simple ruler techniques. By the end of the class, participants gain a clear understanding of the fundamentals of free-motion quilting and the confidence to continue practicing independently. This workshop is suitable for confident beginners and beyond.
